シェルイ・ティボール

シェルイ・ティボール（英語: Serly Tibor, 1901年11月25日 - 1978年10月8日）は、ハンガリーの作曲家、ヴァイオリニスト、ヴィオリスト。

経歴

ロションツ（現在のスロバキアのルチェネツ）出身。リスト・フェレンツ音楽大学でコダーイ・ゾルターンとバルトーク・ベーラに作曲を、ヴェイネル・レオーに管弦楽法を師事した。

バルトークを敬愛していて、助手として作品のオーケストレーションを手伝うなど多大な尽力をし、高く評価されている。バルトークのヴィオラ協奏曲をスケッチの段階から演奏可能な状態にする補筆作業を行ったのもシェルイである。

ヴィオラ奏者として1937年にNBC交響楽団のメンバーに選ばれたが、作曲に専念するために1シーズンで辞めている。その後、ニューヨークのマンハッタン音楽学校で作曲の教授を務めた。弟子には作曲家のジェリー・ビリクやジャズ作曲家のマニー・アルバムがいる。またデンマーク放送管弦楽団の指揮者も務めた。

1945年9月26日にバルトークが没すると完成寸前のピアノ協奏曲第3番、スケッチのみのヴィオラ協奏曲が遺されるが、シェルイは補筆し完成させた。

1978年、ロンドンで死去。

作品

シェルイの最も有名な作品は『ヴィオラと管弦楽のためのラプソディー』である。バルトークのヴィオラ協奏曲とセットで演奏されたり録音されることが多い。また、自らもバルトークに先駆けてヴィオラ協奏曲を作曲している。
