ウェット・レッグ

ウェット・レッグ（Wet Leg）はワイト島出身のイギリスのインディー・ロックグループ。リアン・ティーズデイルとヘスター・チャンバースによって2019年に結成された。2021年にシングル「Chaise Longue（長椅子）」でデビューした。セルフタイトルのデビュー・アルバムは2022年に全英アルバムチャート、オーストラリアのARIAチャート、アイルランド・アルバム・チャートで初登場1位を獲得した。 このアルバムは2022年のマーキュリー賞の最終候補に選ばれた。 第65回グラミー賞では、デビュー作で最優秀オルタナティブ・ミュージック・アルバム賞、「Chaise Longue」で最優秀オルタナティブ・ミュージック・パフォーマンス賞を受賞し、最優秀新人賞にもノミネートされた[5][6]。 また、2023年のブリット・アワードでは最優秀新人アーティスト賞と最優秀英国グループ賞を受賞した。

    マージーサイド生まれのティーズデイルは、8歳のときにフォームビーからワイト島に移住した[7] 。ワイト島で地元のミュージシャン兼ピアニストとして長年演奏し[8] 、ウェット・レッグを結成する前はリアンとして知られ、ブリストルの音楽シーンで活動していた[9] 。リアンとして、2013年に「Humdrum Drivel」を演奏した[10]。 2014年にワイト島音楽祭に参加した時、コスモポリタン誌に写真を撮られた[11]。

    2019年–現在：バンド活動開始と最初のスタジオアルバム

    ティーズデイルとチャンバースは、ワイト島のプラットフォーム・ワン音楽大学（Platform One College of Music）在学中に初めて出会った[12]。 10年間の交友関係を経て、2019年にウェット・レッグという名前でバンドを結成[13]、その後ドミノ・レコーズと契約した[14][1] 。 バンド名の由来については、いくつかの異なる説明がある。 2021年12月のインタビューによると、彼らはさまざまな絵文字の組み合わせを選ぶゲームをして名前を決めたという[15]。2022年4月にYouTubeに投稿されたDiffusとのインタビューでは、ソレント海峡を渡ってワイト島に到達した人々はボートから降りたときに足が濡れた（wet leg）ことに由来する非地元住民を表す形容語句に由来していると述べた[16]。2023年7月のタイムズ紙のインタビューで元ドラマーのダグ・リチャーズは、この名前は彼の兄弟がバンド名の候補である「ウェット・ブック（Wed Book）」を聞き間違えたことで偶然できたと述べた[17]。

    デビューシングル「Chaise Longue」は2021年6月15日にリリースされ[18]、何百万ものストリーミングとビデオの再生回数を獲得、メディアの注目を集めた[19]。 2枚目のシングル「Wet Dream」は2021年9月28日にリリースされた。バラエティ紙は「新しいグループがリリースした2曲のどちらも素晴らしいのは珍しい」と記した。 2021年10月30日にBBC2の「Later... with Jools Holland」に出演した[20]。2021年11月29日、セルフタイトルのデビュー・アルバムを発表し、2022年4月8日にドミノ・レコーズよりリリースされた。 同日、ダブルシングル「Too Late Now」/「Oh No」をリリースした[21]。

    2022年、ファーストアルバムの英国ツアーを行った。その際、2023年にハリー・スタイルズの「ラブ・オン・ツアー」のオセアニアツアーのサポート・バンドとしてオーストラリアとニュージーランドのツアーに参加することが発表された[22]。2021年11月に「Later... with Jools Holland」に出演し、2022年5月に同番組に再び出演した[23]。

    2022年7月にオーストラリアで行われたABCのアンドリュー・フォードとのインタビューで、以前のインタビューで完成したセカンド・アルバムについてコメントした[24]のは「全くの冗談」だったと明かした。「セカンドアルバムはまだない、書く時間が全くなかった」[25]。

    第65回グラミー賞で最優秀新人賞、最優秀オルタナティブ・ミュージック・パフォーマンス賞（Chaise Longue）、最優秀オルタナティブ・ミュージック・アルバム賞の3部門にノミネートされた[5]。2023年2月5日、ロサンゼルスのクリプト・ドットコム・アリーナで、最優秀オルタナティブ・ミュージック・パフォーマンス賞、最優秀オルタナティブ・ミュージック・アルバム賞の2つのグラミー賞を受賞した[26]。 プログレ・モリス・ダンスグループ、ボス・モリスとモリス・ビーストたちとともに「Chaise Longue」を披露し、2023年のブリット・アワードで最優秀新人アーティスト賞と最優秀英国グループ賞を受賞した[27]。

    2023年4月にコーチェラでパフォーマンスを行い[28]、「Ur Mum」のパフォーマンス中にデイヴ・グロールがステージに加わった[29]。

    2023年7月6日、デペッシュ・モードのアルバム『メメント・モリ』からの2枚目のシングルである曲「Wagging Tongue」をリミックスした[30]。
